$2,500 Georgia Humanities Grant Awarded

for a collaborative project by Mercer University, Student Leadership Johns Creek, and the Johns Creek Historical Society

This grant and grant team will support a project by high school students in Student Leadership Johns Creek to produce four short documentary videos about the Macedonia Cemetery. 20 students will begin working on this project in August with the resulting videos to be shown in early 2022. The grant team includes:

  • Project director Dr. Katherine Perrotta, assistant professor of middle grades and secondary education at Mercer University and member of the JC Historical Society
  • Irene Sanders, executive director of Student Leadership Johns Creek
  • Randee Nagler, retired district superintendent of Fulton County Schools and Student Leadership JC advisory board member
  • Joan Compton, president of the JC Historical Society
  • Kirk Canaday, JC Historical Society board member
  • Dr. Harry Akoh, interim dean of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities at Atlanta Metropolitan State University
  • Dr. Robert Helfenbein, associate dean of research and faculty affairs in the Mercer College of Education.
