Summerour Descendant Writes Book

Germany to Georgia, Ten Generations of an American Family
by Charles Summerour

January 11, 2022:
The book tracks the family from its 1748 arrival in the Colonies through 10 generations, including stories of the family's settling in Georgia in the 1830s and success in both the Georgia and California gold rushes. Of particular interest to Johns Creek residents will be the chapters about the generations of Summerours whose farms covered much of the southeast part of Johns Creek, extending thousands of acres along the Chattahoochee and included land of today's Atlanta Athletic Club, Country Club of the South, Perimeter Church, the Regal Cinema and other shopping centers, and numerous subdivisions.

The Summerour family is a significant part of Johns Creek's history, so we are grateful to have Charles Summerour's book as a resource in our archives and a promise from Charles that he will give a talk to the Historical Society. Watch for details.

The Johns Creek Historical Society was pleased to help the author with information in its archives and additional research of his family's farms and lives during their years as residents of the Johns Creek area.
